Actually, there’s really nothing ironic about it. I came down with a pretty bad case of the cold yesterday, which pretty much derailed my plans for the day. I couldn’t ride my bike like I wanted, and I could only manage a page and a half of writing (not the target four) before I threw in the towel and crawled back into bed.
It carried over to today, which meant no riding with Andy as we’d planned, though he at least had a good time riding with a friend. My sinuses remained messed up, I still felt light-headed, and there was still that very, very annoying issue involving overall weakness (with a touch of the chills). No fever, though, which is great, but I hate tottering around the house all sweaty and sticky under several layers of warm clothes and mistaking the furniture for my cats.
The not-quite-ironic thing about productivity was the fact that, when you’re feeling under the weather, time drags its sorry butt, and unless I force myself to do something, I’d have gone nuts waiting for bed time.
This day also made me all the more appreciative of having several stories started and set aside. No, I didn’t work on every one of them either today or the previous days, but it does help when you need to fall back on something because a block hits you.
Anyway, the long and short of it is that Prince of Dolls stumbled to a halt because the plot so far is way too static, and even I was getting bored writing it. So I set it aside and decided to take up Knights of Wollstone again, and I’m now halfway through my target length. I started out today aiming for two pages, but after I managed that, I wondered if I could manage another two, and after that, I tried another two.
So, today, to make the hours go by more quickly, I made myself work on my WIP and finish six pages. Yay! ^^;;; Doesn’t change the fact that I’m still feeling like utter crap, and while my sinuses seemed to have behaved a bit, the overall weakness, chills, and light-headedness are still there, and I guess it’s time to turn in.
I also pulled out my DVD of The Incredibles for some comfort entertainment, but I think I’m better off going to bed early. I’ll be talking a little more about Knights of Wollstone some other time.
When I’m sick, I’m the most unproductive creature on the planet. I just want to lay in bed and waver in and out of sleep.
Yeah, I was desperate. It was either tank up on coffee and get going or pull a Romantic Poet thing and slowly expire while gazing longingly out the window.
I dunno. There is a certain something about staring out the window and dying slowly. I do it at work sometimes!
